You can file this movie under eye-candy. The harshly contrasting color palette they used was a perfect fit for all the different environments, and the costumes & makeup were great.

This movie had a nice mix of elements that you wouldn’t normally see together in a live-action movie… swords, guns, robots, zombies, etc. They got them to work by separating things into different fantasy worlds for each short dream sequence (kind of like separate short films). And although I kind of see the “no explanation needed, it’s a dream world” route as the easy way out, it made sense for their plot.

My challenge with Neon Cell was to get all these different elements to work together, and make sense in one continuous timeline. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Even if a film or tv show isn’t that good, I can usually take away something from it that I think is a cool idea.
