Neon Cell is an multi-issue comic book series that I’m illustrating and co-writing with my wife, Kat.

What is Neon Cell about?
For centuries, daemons have been a scourge on the planet Oeris. They are able to enter the mortal realm by possessing human spellcasters, known as aethereans. Now, following a catastrophic act of terrorism by the daemons, it has been decided that drastic action must be taken against them. The sinthetyks (tech-evolved humans) rule that the daemons’ vessels into the physical world must be exterminated…

Can the true secret to defeating the daemons be discovered before the aetherean genocide is complete?

Where did the concept come from?
Neon Cell’s basic idea came about because I’m such a huge fan of the sci-fi & fantasy genres, and I wanted to create something that incorporated a mix of both. For the art, I thought I’d play on my childhood video game nostalgia and try out some pixel art. I couldn’t recall seeing anything like that in print before. I’ve created something that I like to call synthnoir, a genre of dark, fantasy + cyberpunk pixel art.

Here are just a few of the many things that come to mind as being inspiration for this project: Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Elder Scrolls, Mass EffectFinal Fantasy 6, Castlevania: SotN, and Super Metroid.

The first issue will release in 2023.
I also plan on adding world lore and main character descriptions to this site, but not until they are introduced in released issues (don’t want to spoil anything!). Read more about the art style here.
