I Am Not Complete

The light concealing cream goes on first. Then you blend, and blend, and blend. Blending is the secret.

This piece is fairly old, but still one of my favorites. It was from before I began drawing with the pen tablet – scanned right from my sketchbook. I had been watching Edward Scissorhands, The Matrix, and Dark City a lot around this time… and it shows. Not intended to be a finalized piece, this just started out as a rough sketch during a class. Once I decided the sketch was done, I scanned it into Photoshop. This was actually my first attempt at coloring a sketch in Photoshop; the computer was still a new medium for me as an art tool.

I set the sketch layer to Multiply, and started filling in color on layers underneath. I had each color on its own layer, making it easy to adjust individual colors. Also, all of this color work was done with a mouse, so that may have deterred me from doing more of these. I didn’t really try anymore computer colored scans after this. I mostly just stuck with pencil and paper until I bought the Wacom tablet.

I think I prefer the base sketch to the colored version, but not a bad first outing.
