I have to recommend the TV series Copper, on BBC America. Unfortunately it got cancelled, but it’s still worth a watch. I did this piece for a fan art contest, and won a really cool Copper t-shirt (black, of course) with brass knuckles on it. I don’t know how many people entered, but I was totally surprised to have won something. As I’m still learning the ins & outs of digital painting, I thought I’d try a completely different style. I used thin lines to create light and shadow detail on the character – as opposed to the thicker brush strokes of the speed painting technique. I’ve completely eliminated the sketchy outlines, for a more realistic feel. I really love how this turned out, but I’m not ready to give up using outlines in the style I choose for the book.
